Vivid Publishing imprint
A professional publishing pathway with ISBN and title setup appropriate to your project.
Print-on-demand publishing · Australia
Professional paperback publishing with global print-on-demand distribution — without committing to a warehouse full of books.
Publishing and distribution through Fontaine Publishing Group / Vivid Publishing.
How POD works
Print-on-demand removes the need to manufacture hundreds of copies in advance. Once your title is set up in the distribution network, an order can trigger printing and fulfilment close to the customer.
For independent authors and organisations, that can mean global availability, substantially lower inventory risk and a practical way to keep a title in print for the long term.
We assess your manuscript or print-ready files, book size, page count, cover, metadata and publishing requirements.
Your book is set up under the Vivid Publishing pathway with the appropriate ISBN, metadata and retailer/distribution information.
The title becomes orderable through the supported print-on-demand distribution network and participating booksellers, wholesalers and library suppliers.
When an eligible order is received, a copy is printed and shipped through the network rather than drawn from a large pre-printed inventory.
What you get
POD works best when the book itself is professionally prepared and the publishing data behind it is equally sound. Fontaine can provide the complete pathway, or work with print-ready files you already have.
A professional publishing pathway with ISBN and title setup appropriate to your project.
Access to a large international network serving online retailers, wholesalers, booksellers and libraries.
Book information can be supplied through Australian industry channels including TitlePage® for discoverability by booksellers and libraries.
Professional cover design, typography and book formatting are available when you do not already have production-ready files.
Reported sales are collated through the Fontaine/Vivid author reporting pathway, with royalties payable under the publishing arrangement.
The author-service model is designed so you retain ownership of your copyright rather than assigning the work to Fontaine.
Choose your starting point
There is no need to buy a fixed package containing services you do not need. We quote according to the condition of the files, the book itself and the publishing work required.
01 · Print-ready
For authors and organisations with professionally prepared print files.
02 · Most common
For finished manuscripts requiring professional book preparation before publication.
03 · Print + digital
For projects requiring coordinated print and digital availability.
Why there is no generic package price: page count, trim size, images, design complexity, source files and editorial condition materially change the work required. We prefer to sight the project and provide a relevant quotation rather than force every book into the same package.
A useful distinction
Print-on-demand distribution makes a title orderable through participating channels. It does not guarantee shelf space in physical bookstores — and it does not create demand by itself.
The author or organisation’s connection to its audience, marketing, publicity, reviews and direct activity remain critical. Distribution gives customers a way to obtain the book once you have given them a reason to want it.
Avoid committing to hundreds of books simply to establish retail availability.
Useful for titles that need to remain orderable well beyond the launch period.
Printing through network hubs can make overseas fulfilment more practical than shipping individual books from Australia.
Many projects use a bulk print run for direct/local sales and POD for worldwide or long-term availability.
Questions
Print-on-demand is extremely useful, but it is not automatically the best production method for every book.
Not necessarily. POD is economical because it avoids a large upfront inventory commitment, but the unit cost of each copy is generally higher than a well-priced bulk print run. If you know you can use or sell several hundred copies, we may recommend comparing both approaches.
Eligible titles configured for the distribution network can become orderable through Amazon and other supported retailers. Retailer listings, availability messages and delivery estimates are controlled by those retailers and can change independently of Fontaine.
No. Distribution makes the title discoverable and orderable; physical shelf placement remains a commercial decision for each bookseller. Strong audience demand and professional presentation improve the prospects, but no publishing service can guarantee store stocking.
If you already have genuinely print-ready files, we can work from them. If not, Fontaine can provide cover design and interior formatting. Professional presentation is particularly important when the book will compete in an online retail environment.
Yes. A digital edition can be prepared alongside the paperback and distributed through supported eBook retail channels. See eBookPublish.com.au for the dedicated digital publishing pathway.
Timing depends on whether your files are print-ready and whether design, formatting, proofreading or other work is required. Current indicative publishing and production times are maintained on the Fontaine turnaround page.

You do not need to know every publishing specification. Send us enough to understand the manuscript, stage and intended audience, and we can recommend the most appropriate POD, bulk-print or combined pathway.
